MOCK EXAM 2

To help you prepare for the exam practical, let’s do a mock exam. These are the types of questions I will ask you during the exam. I will give you points for each section, with the idea that I have to help you get past a particular section, you lose those points, but if you can do the rest of the steps, you can still get credit for that.

  1. Launch a c4.2xlarge instance. _______ 5 points


  1. Update your machine and install the software using apt-get just like we did in lab 3. _________ 5 points


  1. Install BLAST, and download uniprot.pep and like you did in previous labs. ___________________ 10 points.


  1. Download the dataset located here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gen711/test.dataset2.fa. The query you will use in blastp is called test.dataset2.fa. _________________ 5 points


  1. Make the blast database using makeblastdb and start blastp like we did in lab 0. ____________________ 10 points (blastp should run for <10 minutes.)


  1. Search for the MICU1 gene. Which entry has the highest sequnce similarity? Whis has the best e-value? Are these different and if so, why? _______________ 15 points
